Eyes Wide Open / Tu N’Aimeras Point by / par Haim Tabakman

This disturbing, hard hitting and controversial first feature is a social drama about a respected, religious man whose world and those of his circle, is turned upside down by his encounter with a young homeless student. Aaron has just reopened his father’s butcher shop. He is a dedicated and respected Orthodox Jew, married to Rivka and father of four. Ezri, a young Yeshiva student walks in and asks to use the phone. Aaron offers Ezri a place in the shop to stay and hires him as an apprentice. Aaron invites Ezri for supper to meet Rivka and their four children.
Desires between the two men begin to take seed, when Ezri invites Aaron to accompany him to a ritual bath. Soon, as the two men become closer, the pressure on Aaron, both internal and external begins to increase.
This is a powerful drama that shows how disruptive it can be when one’s conscience and ethical standards clash with intense desires and feelings.
