The People  Are
Heavy guitar based rock quartet plays well constructed songs with hard driving energy with the lead singer and guitarist belting out high-powered vocals in a voice that was high pitched  backed by heavy handed drumming; A musical cocktail of Grand Funk Railroad mixed  with April Wine, adding a drop of Gerry Boulet and Offenbach.

James and Blackburn, Toronto
Not a duo as the name would imply but actually a trio made up of cousins Owen Edwards on guitar / vocals and Landon Kotchapaw on bass plus Sebastien Button on drums and percussion. Though they actually began in 2008, the seed that would give rise to James and Blackburn were actually sown much earlier. Owen and Landon spent their childhood years in their grandparents’ basement recording and documenting using outdated video cameras, tape decks and karaoke machines. The result as evidenced in last night’s concert and in their first full-length CD, “Island Universe” is a music that is melodically complex containing elements from all genres extant in the current musical landscape with haunting and beautiful echoic vocals; a sound that is familiar sound on one hand but unique on the other, putting them a cut above the usual.

This 4-piece band (3 guys and 1 girl) with 2 guitars, autoharp and drums with mandolin added in, perform a Celtic and Appalachian flavoured folk. They sang and played in structurally seamless harmonies and instrumentally simple melodies.

She plays guitar and vocals and is backed by guitar, bass and drums. Her vocals are powerful and soulful.   The melodies are dynamic and clearly influenced by the blues rock of the likes of Led Zeppelin and the folk styling of Neil Young.  She did an excellent rendition of Steppenwolf's ``The Pusher`` with a unique and more appropriate touch -- she specifies that the `pusher` in question is a `bible pushing man'.
