"The Internship" directed by Shawn Levy

 The Internship

directed by Shawn Levy

Put Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson together and you have a match made for a Google app. These two goons have just been made obsolete form their watch selling job, and decide to try to get a job as “Googlers”, but first they have to join a team of nerds to compete against other nerds in a difficult test of competitive tasks. Of course they are frowned upon as they are twice the age of their young teammates, but what started as five disparate unlikely team members ends up as a cohesive winning group, each having grown out of their own emotional complexes. In fact, their team wins the internship and each member becomes full Google employees. There are made hiccups in their quest to win; Billy(Vince Vaughn) quits at one point as he forgot to log on during one task though he did marvelously well on the phone; it was a tech support task.  Still, rules are rules, so he lost that one for his team. Then there is the team’s arch enemy, slimy character who taunts them, especially Billy as he knows Billy has been a failure at everything he attempts to do. Each of the team members has his own personal glitch, but because of Billy and Nick (Own Wilson), their destiny is headed for Google greatness. There are so many funny characters and lines in this comedy, it makes you think the American dream knows no age boundaries as long as one is willing to laugh, accept some falls, and  show resilience needed to get back in the game – this case – the Google game.  This is a film we can all relate to. Vince Vaughn wrote and produced this hilarious film – one that turns the computer into a refreshing instrument that makes the screen colorfully entertaining.

I must add that the staff at this store is as much fun as this film. Great and tireless “tech support” for novices interested in purchasing one of their in-store Vidéotron phones never wavers. Patience and true friendliness is the standard this team sets. I spent one hour being given a lesson on a Smart phone even though I was not able to purchase at that time, and they knew it. Now that’s class!
